What is the pop-up on your desktop that says "your infected"?

The laptop runs XP, and I turned it on the other day and everything was running normal. The problem is, as soon as my desktop loaded up there was a pop up-along with an icon on the toolbar- that said "your system has been infected" and so on and then immediately began "loading antivirus update" and then proceeded to "scan" my laptop. I did not click on anything to make it start - i didnt even get a chance to- plus, it would not allow me to exit out of it. It just continued to 'update'. Obviously it infected my laptop, but what I want to know is that this is a real problem people are having because no one seems to believe that it 'downloaded itself'. Like i said, i didnt touch anything, the pop up just immediately began doing its thing.

Run spybot, ad-aware, and then go to trend micro and run a housecall scan. You have picked up malware or a virus somewhere. Running these three items should remove it.

it is obiviously a virus....ur system just updated he anti virus set on ur laptop.......be carefull.....and check what kida virus is it .....it may damage ur system or the anti virus in ur system will delete the icon containing the virus...
Its an embedded trojan program that you picked up off the net. It tells you you are infected and will run the program over and over until you remove it. Run an antispy program or some anti virus programs will detect it also. It can be deleted manually but takes more time to do and to explain. Its just AD-ware spy-spam.
..either your computer has a virus, or ...you have an std.
This is completely possible. Those who say that it can't happen deserve to have it happen to them.
Sounds like malware.
