All my problems started on 9-13 with yahoo's most recent chatroom repairs. After i log-in, by the second or 3rd pm i receive or send, it seems that something triggers irregular behavior. The im window is blank tho i can see what i type till i hit send. I receive blank pms. Chatroom emotes are often empty white box placeholders. When pms work immediately after restarts, some, tho not all emoticons in pms are empty white boxes whether received or sent . Photoshare shows no data when posting pics. Pics received are gray boxes. Photoshare icon in im request is absent. My personal files start appearing with new folder icons when i try to access pics to share. Archives either hangs as a partially resolved window, or causes "not responding" resulting in crash. I thot it was Yahoo system; now i dont. Have updated yahoo, verified scripts enabled in IE, cleaned system with online scans, disabled antivirus to see if i get different results, all without success. Can Anyone Please Help ME? DESPERAT

Hi Sweet Addiction,

From the screenshot that you have posted, it DOES NOT look like a virus to me. Looks more like some adware stuff.

A few things to remember:

1) A virus wouldn't generally proclaim its presence with an alert message.

2) Windows on its own has no method of detecting and warning you about adware.

In your case let us list the facts that make you think that you have a virus:

1) Your ad-aware scan showed infections.

2) Norton AV didn't find anything.

3) You have a pop up message that tells you that you have a virus and that you need to download a software to get rid of. And it says click ok to download it.

If I were you I wouldn't trust the message. My analysis is that you most definitely have something on your computer that you'd rather not have. Now lets see how to get rid of it.

1) Use task manager to check all running processes.

2) Look for suspicious names in the processes list.

When I get emails from friends with picture attachments, I can see the picture thumbnails at the bottom of the email but when I click on the _view_ link, it just shows a basically empty screen with something like "virus scan results File name File size File type Scan result (results) Scanned with Norton AntiVirus [Download Attachment] [Back To Message]" but no picture(s) underneath this, like there used to be some time ago! I am using the basic Yahoo email (not the Beta), I've used MS IE, as well as other browsers, to the same effect! Is it just Yahoo or ...? Thanks y'all!

Ok, I downloaded Spybot and ran the scan. It picked up a few items like adware and spyware. I removed them with it and ran a scan in Nortan antivirus and it said I had nothing. I redid the scan with Spybot and it still said I had the same items that he just "removed" What is up with this.

So while browsing the computer the other day I got a little box that indicated that there was a threat on the computer It said that it failed to remove. So scanned the computer with Symantec AntiVirus and it showed there was no threats. I looked under the history and it showed two things in the past history. It was called the same thing and dated the same day at the same time. The bottom one says it was not deleted but the top one said it was deleted. I deleted the backup that the antivirus saved and scanned my computer again and it showed no threats. I also scanned with Ad-Aware 2007 and it shows no threats. Do you think my computer is virus free?

Few days ago, There's virus in my flashdisk. So, I tried to scan it with antivirus. But, after I scanned it I can't access through my data. Although I can open my flashdisk, there's no data inside.

I guess your antivirus software did quarantine the files assuming that they are infected. You must have a way within this software that shows you to view the infected files %26 it can clean them with a restore option if possible. Else you could try opening it ( I mean the flash disk ) somewhere else than your PC. This should avoid your Avtivirus software.

Undeletable Picture?

Well I downloaded some songs and apparently i clicked on a picture on limewire too the title on it was "Eiffel 65 track 6". I didnt notice it was a jpeg instead of mp4. It downloaded to my desktop, but instead of it being the song it was a picture with a vulgar name and now will not delete. I can't delete it, move it to another folder, specifically scan it with antivirus, encrypt it, unlock it,or anything else. I tried:

Starting it in safe mode

Scanning it with antivir, spysweeper, spybot, and Lavasoft spyware.

Using an unlocker dl on it.

Using an uninstaller DL on it.

Is there anything else i can do other then just wipe my hardrive? I really dont want something like this on my desktop, especially if it contains a virus/tracker in it.

My system got infected ??? please help?

Hello my computer was totally infected with viruses, spyware and adware few days back. So I just deleted all the unnecessary files, temporary internet files, ran spybot search and destroy scan where I found 53 problems which I fixed in there, scanned with Norton antivirus where I got 4 threats and was fixed successfully. I defragmented and disk clean up already.

But for some reason still my computer is not running with as good speed as it suppose to be. I have 1 GB of ram and Pentium 4 3.2 Mhz. I know its not very fast processor as compared to latest ones. But its not running with the same speed what it used to be.

When I try to restore my system on back date (bold letters), I tried so many dates but it always say your system cannot be restored on this date. Could anybody please tell me how can I find a date where I can restore my system too. But this will be my last option.

Please don鈥檛 suggest to reformat my hard drive. I want to fix it in some other way.

i just noticed that when i open IE it takes about 2 mins for it to open. When i add a new tab the same thing happens, IE just freezes for about 2 mins before the new tab appears. It wasn't like this yesterday. My Firefox and Opera is working just fine though. I tried to sweep with spysweeper and scan with norton antivirus. I have a problem. This troubleshoot thing and a spyware downloaded in my computer after norton told me that it had stopped a virus and deleted a file. Recently, I have had a problem with the homepage "sticking" in Firefox. It keeps reverting back to the Mozilla Firefox Start Page, which contains nothing more than a Google search. Just in case my homepage was being hijacked, I ran a thorough scan with Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware, and Spy Sweeper. All of these are up-to-date, including Firefox. I do not have the same problem in IE. What else might be causing this?

Not sure, but try the following. After setting your homepage (again), open a new tab and type 'about:config' (without quotes) in the address bar. This will bring up FF's configuration file. In the 'filter' field type 'home'. The top entry will be "browser.startup.homepage". Check what this is now set to. If it isn't changed, then there might be a permission problem on the config file.

I use Linux so I don't really know where the file is in Windows, but it'll be in your settings somewhere (do a search?). Right click on the file to see what the permissions are. Make sure you have write permission to that file.

Previously my laptop has some errors in the security updates as the automatic updates were off suddenly for quite some time but now it is finally alright now.

However,whenever i am connected to the internet,the internet webpage will be fine and will upload as per normal but for after a while,it will suddenly change to "internet explorer cannot be displayed" after multiples of refreshes.I reconnect again and the same process applies.

I use a laptop while I DJ but last night the sound was not right, I use both Mixmeister and Virtual DJ and both programmes when opened were extremly slow and when music was played it sounded very distorted (similar to a CD that is about to skip), I opened my task manager and noticed that when either of the programmes were ran the CPU Usage was up at 95-100% and the memory was at almost 80% too.

To find anything on your computer, you can go to Start, then up to Search, and make sure it is searching through all files and folders, type in the file name, and search. If the file exists, it will find it. If nothing comes up, that means the file does not exist.

Clean out the Temp folder and Temporary Internet Files every so often. (For Temp just put %temp% into a run box and it should pop right up.)

For Temporary Internet Files, it's a bit more complicated. IE can be configured to clear the cache on exit, (which I suggest using) but that doesn't always work, and IE can actually lose track of files that are in there due to crashes. Here's how you can find them:

1. Close all Internet Explorer and Explorer windows.

2. Start type the following into the run box, autocomplete should be helpful some of the time:

C:\Documents and Settings\(your username)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\content.ie5

Yes, that's content.ie5 even though you've probably got IE6. Don't ask me why they did it that way. AutoComplete won't work on the content.ie5 part either because it's normally hidden.

3. You may see a bunch of folders with names made of a random combination of letters and numbers. You can delete those folders. Leave the index.dat and desktop.ini in content.ie5 alone. (You might not see desktop.ini.) If you don't see any folders, and did tell IE to clear the cache at exit, then IE's managed to clean up after itself. When deleting the folder s Explorer will probably ask if you want to delete desktop.ini, you can say yes 'cause that'll be one in the folders you're deleting.

If you connected to internet and only surf the web with a browser on the laptop, you got sent more than receive, you have some program running in background than you know, install a firewall and see what program is sending out data, if it is not intended, uninstall it.
