Why Does my computer shut off automatically without anything?

Hey All,

For some reason my computer shuts off by its self, with out go to start and shut of and any other promp. It could be a virus but i'm doing a scan with norton antivirus 2007. It seems to lock up first and shuts off. My computer is a HP Pavilion Dv1000 laptop. I don't know what it is and i don't feel like taking it to a computer repair store. It seems to lock up when im running heavy duty programs also, yesterday i was watching a trailer on youtube and ripping a cd into my laptop and it shut off. Don't know.. any help will be greatly appreciated

Does it restart or just shut down like the power was unplugged? You might try an online virus scan, but it could be a hardware related issue as well.

like one the answerers said. It can be overheating, so a nice laptop cooler will do the trick. But, another reason a pc can just shut down is a virus. One of the rather dangerous ones. You may want to run a good anti-virus scanner.
Your laptop is getting overheated. Specially when you run heavy applications. Do not keep the laptop on your laps, bed or any soft surface, as this may block the air vents underneath the laptop. Keep it on hard smooth surface %26 in a cool room. I hope this would take care of this issue.

Or get the laptop ventilation fan checked. May be its blocked or not working.
First you need to check your computer capacity if it can handle the load and processing you put on it, Make sure its not also overheating and its fans are working and its well ventilated, if all else fails before starting up heavy programs go to www.f-secure.com and used (support ) -online virus scanning tool (you may have to temp disable norton)and if that does not detect a virus than you need to contact the laptop manufacturer.
