Please help with my computer?

Ever since I downloaded "Norton 360 (antivirus)", everytime I scan all the website I have in my "favorites" gets deleted. It still says (pretend Yahoo! or Google) when I click on it a window pops out and says "The Target " " of this Internet Shortcut is not valid. Go to the Internet Shortcut property sheet and make sure the target is correct." But if I don't scan and add in the websites to my "favorite" it works, but after scaning it just gets deleted. Please help!

After about 10 min of normal running my computer slows down, how can I fix it?

After about 10 min of normal running my computer slows down exponentially, and I can't do anything at all. At that point it will take +5 minutes to close a window. In safe mode my computer runs fine, and I don't get this problem at all. I've run an updated Norton-Antivirus full system scan, as well as a Microsoft Defender system scan, both came up with nothing. P4 2.4 Ghz, 512 Ram, XP Pro SP2, Radeon 9600. I'm trying to avoid having to format my hard drive. What is this and/or how can I fix it?

2.in the Bios disable quick power on self test(POST)

3.Disable Boot up floppy seek

4.disable Boot delay in the bios if run into problems turn it back on.

6.Perform disk cleanup, then Disk defragmenter and Chkdsk 1 to 5.

7.Change virtual memory to minimum 2096 and maximum 4096.

Im looking for a cd i can buy that I can run an antivirus and antispyware scan from on a PC. I need this for a PC that does not have any security tools. What I want to do is run the scan from the cd and get rid of the crap on the PC already, then I plan to install norton afterwards. I just installed a game , Counter - Strike 1.6 ...

After a couple of time , my explorer started to block* instantly.

* = Desktop , TaskBar , Everything on the screen looked ok but when i try to click on something , nothing works ... my cursor is ok.

I don't know what is the problem , i hav Nod32 antivirus system , i scanned my computer but nothing found. To be sure i tried to scan with Symantec online scanner. Nothing Found.

i scanned my computer with adaware se. pc doctor. spybot s%26d, stinger, etrust antivirus (%26 online norton scan), crap clean, and also a registry fix program called winaso 2.8.

fixed alot of registry errors, removed tons of malware, but no viruses came up. uninstalled alot of software and used msconfig to fix the startup..but my computer is still slow (hp dv500 notebook). i ran some benchmarks but still slow..dont know what else to do?, free memory is around 150mb out of 512

it stays at about 95%-100% usage when i bring up the windows task manager?

any idea why..

It may be that a few of your 6 antivirus/antispyware programs are getting into a conflict somewhere. Just disable random firewalls and scanners until you figure out which ones are causing the problem.

If all else fails, use System Restore to go back to a date before this lag problem appeared.
look at your processes in the task manager...look for something sucking cpu usage...or you might want to upgrade ram..or do a disk defragment...or disk celanup...(most of those free clean up programs usually just slow your computer down)
Is it svchost.exe causing it because if it is try disabling windows automatic updates. A friend had that type of issue. If that isn't it then refformatt and reinstall windows if you can.

Can you use system restore in these situations?

I'm kind of a computer newby so I appologise if this is a stupid question for you techies out there.

On day 1, I did a complete thorough antivirus and spyware scan check and removed all viruses, spyware, worms, etc on my computer. My computer is now "clean". I create a system restore point.

On day 2, after surfing on the net, for some odd reason, a large number of virus got installed into my computer. Instead of the using conventional remedy of running my antivirus program to remove to viruses, can I use system restore to go back to day 1 when my computer was originally "clean". Would that remove the virus that got installed on day 2?

On day 1 I ran a registery cleaning program to optimize my system. After doing so I created a system restore point. On day 2, I found for some odd reasons, my computer contained critical registry errors. Instead of running my registry cleaning program again, can I simply system restore to day 1. Would that fix the registry errors

if that is some random generic registry cleaner it could have messed it up in the first place, and i dont think that restore would fix eighter. id do a virus scan , then a disk check. like the thing that comes up when you improperly shut your pc down.

1. I have a USB drive which has a virus called 'f-----.vbs', I dunno where it came from but I have another USB drive which has the similar virus. Hi, I opened msn messenger and got an IM straight away. The message said, will you look at some photos that ive done in photoshop, and see if you think they are not to green. This message was sent from a friend so i trusted them. When i opened the zip folder i think i put a virus on me pc. I have norton antivirus did a scan and it found no threats. However msn just signs out by itself, my contacts now get the message and norton is playing up big time. It sends loads of pop up screens all over my screen and messages saying email fail to send but i have not tried to send email. I have uninstalled norton and the pop ups have stopped. but msn not working properly and my friends still getting the message. I have now installed AVG and done a scan and found no threats. the virus has been removed however seems you still have some files generated by the virus, go to command promt and delet the the startup programs ,the best solution is take backup for your files, format, reinstall , update your fresh installed operating system from internet,take buckup for this fresh installation point ,in future whatever happens you can go back to this point.

There's a text file on my computer that I don't remember creating?

A couple of days after I got my laptop, a shortcut to a Notepad file called "dxva_sig" showed up on my computer desktop. I did not create this file nor create a shortcut for it. The actual file is blank. I figured one of my cousins or my brother had just been messing around on my laptop and mashed the keys for the file name (because "dxva_sig" has no significance to me), so I deleted it to my Recycle Bin and created a password for the laptop so the kids would stop fooling around.

Within a few days, however, "dxva_sig" was back on my desktop. Confused, I deleted it once more and ran a full system scan with my AntiVirus program. I scanned for viruses, spyware, worms, cookies, the works. Nothing suspicious at all showed up, let alone some malicious activity called "dxva_sig".

Every few days, "dxva_sig" keeps magically rescuing itself from the Recycle Bin and settling down on my desktop. What the heck is going on? Is this something malicious? If not, how do I delete it PERMANENTLY?

Why does my laptop have a touchy CPU usage?

So currently, whenever I try to do anything almost at all, my CPU usage spikes. For example, trying to play chess on www.instantchess.com. I played it on my other comp and it worked fine. Depending on what it is, it's regular processes, firefox.exe, explorer.exe, etc.

I have AVG antispyware and antivirus installed, I scan regularly. I really don't know what the problem is. If it is hardware, please give me a way to make sure, so I don't go out and buy a new motherboard or something, and it ends out that's not the problem.

One last thing, recently, the Battery stopped charging, I dunno if that's a factor or not.

Its hard to answer this question without knowing the model of your laptop. Right-click on the taskbar below and select "Task Manager" then click on the "processes tab" and watch to see what program is eating the most ram. You might have a smaller processor on your laptop.

That sounds close to what happened to me not a long time ago actually three weeks ago. It's probably a virus/ad-ware infection that your virus or spy-ware program haven't been updated to remove yet. If it's been going on for a week now and you tried using your computer this way the infection might have copied itself many times in several places in your hard drive. My anti virus program detected the nasty virus that planted itself in my computer but it couldn't catch the virus cause my anti virus program kept catching this virus over and over after I had deleted it and it slowed my system down and pop ups still kept popping. When I knew my anti virus program which I keep updated daily detected the virus and couldn't get rid of the virus I knew I had to do the inevitable. I had to reformat my hard drive completely and load windows and other programs I had in my computer all over again, yes it stinks but it got rid of everything in my hard drive along with the virus. But I had no choice if that virus your computer has is like the one I had you probably might start thinking about reformatting your drive if every other method's you tried failed. It's very tough to try to download other anti virus and spy-ware programs over the Internet while your computer is infected I should know I tried it but I gave up cause the pop ups wouldn't let me. Which ever route you take to clean your computer I hope your successful but I advice you if you are using Internet Explorer try using a different Internet browser next time after you have disinfected your computer. Try using Firefox browser or Safari browser or Maxthon browser, I have the three browsers in my computer and Im using Firefox right now using a different browser wont completely protect your computer but it will resist other malicious software that is designed to exploit specifically Internet Explorer browser vulnerabilities, IE is the most exploited browser out there. Also always keep your Anti virus and spy-ware programs updated you can also add a different free and very good spy-ware program called Spybot. Every other day scan your computer but scan more often for spy-ware after using the Internet for long sessions, It is bothersome task but at least you ensure your computer stays as clean as possible. Messenger wont keep me logged on?

I have yahoo messenger 8.1, i dont use any type of windows altering software, I also have mcafee firewall and antivirus, I occasionally scan my system with AdAware SE for spyware, and use RegMech 5.0 to fix registry problems. I also have a Broadband cable internet connection that is always on. However, yahoo messenger will not keep me logged on no matter what type of connection settings I change it to. Does anybody know of any conflict with the software I mentioned above and messenger?

Computer restarts itself / freezes too?

The last few days my computer will just restart it self every few hours. Every once in a while, instead of it restarting, it would just freeze the screen and I would have to manually restart it. Now, it won't even boot up. I would start the computer and it wouldn't get pass the windows loading screen before it would freeze up.

Everything has worked flawless with the computer up until the last few days. It is a few years old, but has been taken care of real good.

Could it be a hardware problem in the computer? I just ran Norton AntiVirus full system scan, so I don't think it's a virus.

Advice? Suggestions? Anything is appreciated.

You might be having a problem with the power supply. If you have added a new hardware component recently, this might have added just enough drain to bring the voltage down.
this happened to me hardware problem try doing a selftest hard drive scan to see if it works u can do this by when u turn on the computer press f10 repeadelty or tryin going into safe mode (f8)
HEY. I'm a computer specialist! First check your processors (control+alt+delete). If its above 35, then that's your issue. It means that ur computer is infected with spy ware, malware, adware, or a virus. If Norton doesn't pick up on it that means that the virus is deep in your hard drive. The only way you could fix it is by reinstalling Windows. If your processors not above 35 then you will need to check you ram, and hard drive space. But to answer your question "NO". My computer automatically restarts without warning?

On my Windows XP desktop computer I've been having a big problem.

Every time i turn it on, it works for about 5 seconds then automatically restarts. It can barely get to the login screen whatsoever.

And about 50 restarts, sometimes we can log in to the computer for like 2 minutes then it restarts again.

My dad has checked the inside for dust, and there is none so we can rule out that being a problem.

I was wondering what we should do at this point to fix it.

~Note~ System restore does not work, antivirus can only scan the first couple files then it restarts so thats useless too. There is no dust, no overheating.

It has been running perfectly for the last 2 months, and we haven't installed anything new in that time period.

Is there a way to fix it? We really don't want to send it to a computer mechanic because it costs alot so we might as well get a new desktop.

You should be safe as long as you have a good virus protection for your computer. You should also add a spyware/trojan protection to your computer because most downloads have trojans, not viruses. Once your protection detects a virus or a trojan, it will quarantine it and you may delete it.

You cant create a virus. There are hackers out there who try to think of ways to screw up people's computer so they usually use an old virus, but they change the code around so that it travels to a person's computer a different way.

Once you install someone else's software on your computer, your computer is no longer yours. Their program can put whatever it wants on your system. It doesn't have to be a virus to be a royal pain in the *** to your system and make it practically inoperable.

My computer has had a problem freezing up since purchase. The computer should have been returned but it was too much of a hassle and the problem was not so bad. Now it has become worse. It will freeze solid while searching the web or when something like Norton Antivirus runs a scan. Every once in a great while it restarts itself. What do you think needs to be fixed???

Could be an overheating problem. Check the CPU fan to make sure it is seated tight.
There's a lot of possibilities and reasons why it freezes up, try returning it to the vendor since it might still have a warranty.
first thing id do is uninstall norton. way too big of a software and it doesnt work well. try anti vir. free. it could be just a defected harddrive or ram or motherboard. see if its still under warranty becuase it wont go away unless all it is is spyware and viruses. spybot search adn destroy is decent to remove spyware. good luck

I used the Facebook photo uploader about 4 times and at that time it worked just fine. Recently when i run Facebook before i can even try to use their simple upload tool the fancy uploader version takes over and shuts down all instances of Explorer? I am not sure why that is and I have run kaspersky antivirus and Microsofts scan,I am running Windows Vista and since it worked a few times before I have to asume it has something to do with direct X or Java? First, go to your Tools %26gt; Internet Options in the Explorer menu bar and then go to Advanced tab. Make sure that all the boxes for Java are checked, as well as SSL 3.0 and TSL 1.0.

Try it again, and if it doesn't work, make sure you have the latest version of Java.

Other than that, I HIGHLY recommend Mozilla Firefox as a web browser. Explorer crashes for me all the time, but I rarely have a problem with Firefox.

I have been unable to find a suitable answer to your question. I would advise you to right click the downloaded files and selct the option to scan with your Anti Virus program. Honestly, it should scan automatically as it's downloading anyway.

How do you repair a computer that cannot open any programs and freezes after booting up?

I have this problem with my laptop. Anytimes it boots up, it suddenly freezes and the battery suddenly gets really hot. I'll have to use the power button to shut it down. I have managed one day to do a thorough antivirus and antispyware scan and I managed to find 2 Trojans and 2 worms. I got them removed but my computer still acts up. I then took my computer to repair but it has been 2 weeks and no response. I don't know what to do. Help!

Do you have a rescue CD or a windows CD? If you do try booting to these.You may need to configure the BIOS, but its no big deal to boot from the CD. From there you can fix/repair your current installation or even do a clean install. Good luck.

If you don't have recovery disks you'll need to have the hard drive reformatted and then reinstall the programs you want.

I got a message from one of my friends today in my myspace account. The message was what looked like a youtube video, except my profile pic was on the vid. I stupidly clicked on it and it took me to a web site and I knew instantly that I F'd up. I didn't know what website it took me to b/c I just kept closing the window, but a few pop ups kept coming up until finally it stopped. Anyway know what I could've gotten? I called my friend to tell her and she said that she had gotten something like that from another friend and clicked it and didn't follow up on what happened. Turned out, she checked her outbox and it had sent itself to all her friends on her top list. I just ran an antivirus and adaware scan and nothing, but just in case they both missed it, if someone knows anything about this, please share the info. Thanks!

I have just installed a free anti-virus off the net called 'Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Class

Saying you O/S is Windows doesn鈥檛 cover much about your computer. I suggest looking at the error logs to see if anything is written prior to system shut down. If so just search on that error and see what you get.

Doesn鈥檛 sound like a conflict between operating systems. I assume you are installing the game from windows into the windows partition.

When you run a virus scan, you should just leave your computer alone. What its doing is scanning for viruses, and when opening up the internet, that is a home for viruses. It will either stop the scan when u open internet or it won't open and continue to scan.

Nothing is wrong with your computer, just whenever you want to scan it, do it before u go to bed or when your about to leave your house. Just remember, leave your computer alone whenever running a virus scan.
You can still get onto the internet but everything you do will be very, very slow. It's best not to run any scans until you're able to just leave the computer alone while it runs.

Not really. Windows Defender hasn't had raving reviews. Personally I much prefer SuperAntispyware along with my Spybot S%26D and run a full scan with it.

And you are correct, SpywareBlaster is a blocking tool and not a malware removal program. Works great. I use it as well.

You may want to look at running your Avast at least once a week though. While there is some overlap between Antivirus and Antispyware products, both *use different techniques to look for and identify malware.

Windows XP: I am not able to delete some folders. Everytime I click on the folder, it show another folder in it and another and another ! When I try to delete it, it won't with error message that the filename is too long and to rename it. But renaming it does not solve the problem. In fact I have some stuff in the folders, but now they cannot be retrieved, bcos it just shows another folder in it but not the actual contents. Scanned with antivirus programs brought up nothing. A virus or spyware is causing the problem.

You can probably go into the safe mode (F8) on bootup and delete the file. I would choose safe mode with networking then update your anti-virus program (latest definations) and download and update Spybot Search and Destory HERE:

could be your isp picked up on the port's and blocked them. or could be wich i find hard to believe, you were in the proccess of downloading a virus file and so your firewall stopped it's communication's till the said file is deleted from the transfer section.
