Do I really need windows defender?

Currently I am running this:

Live scanners:

PC Tools Spyware doctor unregistered

Spybot S %26D Resident

Avast Antivirus

Zonealarm firewall

Windows defender

Spyware blaster (I don't think it is a live scanner but it somehow blocks things according to download.com)

Every week scanning:

Spybot S%26D

Spyware Doctor unregistered (I manually delete what I find with this)

Every month scanning:

Avast! antivirus

No you don't need windows defender its a very poor program, Spywareblaster works better, however try this link, it gives more real-time protection that spywareblaster %26 it will speed up your PC.

Not really. Windows Defender hasn't had raving reviews. Personally I much prefer SuperAntispyware along with my Spybot S%26D and run a full scan with it.

And you are correct, SpywareBlaster is a blocking tool and not a malware removal program. Works great. I use it as well.

You may want to look at running your Avast at least once a week though. While there is some overlap between Antivirus and Antispyware products, both *use different techniques to look for and identify malware.
