Is there anyone else who doesn't bother with anti-virus?

After lots of experience with computers, I no longer see the need for antivirus. I have a hardware firewall built into my wireless router, which protects me from inbound attacks. I find viruses tend to come from pirated software download, porn sites and fake online banking sites. I don't go on any of these, so I see no need for antivirus. I recently ran a spyware scan just to see if I was being stupid, and the only spyware that was found was cookies (which is always classed as spyware for some reason), and a WindowsFirewallOverride (which was because I had disabled the Windows Firewall). Is anyone else like me, or am I being stupid?

You are right... and wrong!

A "proper" virus (well developed) can go through any firewall or anti-virus scanner, but these viruses are rare.

On the other hand, if you surf "safely" (visiting reputable sites, avoiding matchmakers, BB, forums, porn, free downloads, rejecting activex installs, not open emails you do not expect, no pirate software or pictures/music/video downloads etc...), you will still enjoy the web without problems.

Just make good restore points and regular backups.

ANY anti-virus is an absolute pain in the neck, especially Norton.

The problem is that these check any file when you open them!
