Tracking.log?

Hello i would like to ask you how i can find the tracking.log in my windows registry...because when i scan with my antivirus it sticks on it...even the defrag does the same...thanks

Tracking.log?mcaffee

To find anything on your computer, you can go to Start, then up to Search, and make sure it is searching through all files and folders, type in the file name, and search. If the file exists, it will find it. If nothing comes up, that means the file does not exist.

Tracking.log?norton antivirus 2007

erp.....up, that sounds fishy.

I reccomend downloading AVAST and doing a boot time scan, so it will get it before it boots.

Clean out the Temp folder and Temporary Internet Files every so often. (For Temp just put %temp% into a run box and it should pop right up.)

For Temporary Internet Files, it's a bit more complicated. IE can be configured to clear the cache on exit, (which I suggest using) but that doesn't always work, and IE can actually lose track of files that are in there due to crashes. Here's how you can find them:

1. Close all Internet Explorer and Explorer windows.

2. Start type the following into the run box, autocomplete should be helpful some of the time:

C:\Documents and Settings\(your username)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\content.ie5

Yes, that's content.ie5 even though you've probably got IE6. Don't ask me why they did it that way. AutoComplete won't work on the content.ie5 part either because it's normally hidden.

3. You may see a bunch of folders with names made of a random combination of letters and numbers. You can delete those folders. Leave the index.dat and desktop.ini in content.ie5 alone. (You might not see desktop.ini.) If you don't see any folders, and did tell IE to clear the cache at exit, then IE's managed to clean up after itself. When deleting the folder s Explorer will probably ask if you want to delete desktop.ini, you can say yes 'cause that'll be one in the folders you're deleting.

How do I salvage my files?

My motherboard broke down which forced me to reinstall windows (XP Pro SP2) as the version on my system drive was"locked" to my old MB. I realised, after reinstalling windows, work files were gone. I thought they were gone forever. But just by chance I noticed that my antivirus program was scanning the very files I am missing. But I cannot access this nonexistant windows folder. Not Explorer, not my filesalvaging program. Only my antivirus prog can "see" the files. Is there anyway I can access those files?

When you reinstall windows without fully formatting, it will create another folder or virtual drive that all your files will be stored. You have to find that back up files, it will better if you use command prompt for finding.

Can you see the directory the files were in? You may have to log in as administrator and change the ownership in order to access.

Help with spam mail?

Please is there some one out there that can help me with spam mail. I have ccleaner, avg- antivirus and email-scanning,(spam matters,Gov:run.) Spybot, Ad-Aware, And windows fire Wall. so why am l still getting spam. Also when l run my scans l get CRITICAL, MRU, l understand this means most recently used but with all the protection l have WHY???

Help with spam mail?network security

1. Most of the stuff you mentioned are to clean off spyware and prevent hackers, NOT to deal with spam.

2. Once your email addy is on the spammer's list, you will get spam. I get about 85 pieces of spam PER HOUR for my family's email server. Some ideas:

- buy an add-on product that filters out spam as your computer downloads it. There are lots of these products, and some of the newer antivirus packages have these features.

- Get an email address that has spam filtering - hotmail.com and spamcop.net come to mind. AOL claims that it filters out 2-3 BILLION (with a "B") spams a day, but lots still get thru.

- If you're running your own email server, or have your own domain name, then you've got two more choices. Either contract with an outside spam filtering company (spamcop.net and McAffee are two such examples), or install a spam filtering appliance (Barracuda, NetCleanse, etc).

My clients get run thru NetCleanse, and that costs them about $1.50 per user per month. They love to pay that.

Laptop processing speed becomes slow once it connects to internet. i have scanned for virus, spyware.

i have scanned using Norton Antivirus, Windows Defender. Ad Aware, Spybot-Search %26 Destroy...there is nothing. When the internet is connected the data Sent is more than Received.

Laptop processing speed becomes slow once it connects to internet. i have scanned for virus,spyware..not foundnetwork

If you connected to internet and only surf the web with a browser on the laptop, you got sent more than receive, you have some program running in background than you know, install a firewall and see what program is sending out data, if it is not intended, uninstall it.

If your antivirus and spware software found nothing, you probably need a update on their database, use their update link, if still return with nothing you got to change to better one.

recommendation: avg free ver.7

1.do you use pcmcia modem and a mouse attached to ps2 inlet ?

if you do:check that there is no conflict between modem (com port) and mouse port(com 2)

if you do not: look at the internet connection tray(two computers) if there is continuos activity while you do not browesing you have a spyware and you must try another anti spy or anti virus software

GOOD LUCK

Ive done a spyware check and anti virus check and my comp is still slow?nortan antivirus

Ok, msconfig is GREAT!!! go to start up and uncheck everything except your anti-virus software. Anyway Mcafee can slow an older system down because the newer versions are programed to protect newer systems, they really suck your system resources up. any messenger systems may also slow down your system. Using Mozilla Firefox, Zone Alarm(firewall) are all free and secure and don't kill your system, and using web mail is more secure than using outlook express. If your system is still running low, you will need to reformat your system and start afresh.

It is probably the settings in Mcafee and your anti-virus programs. They are probably scanning for virusus all the time while you use the computer.
