My ie doesnt work but firefox does?

can download but cant install anything, modem light on, i am administrator, and win. live messenger can sign in . also, cant system restore. everything that uses ie like runescape client or software updates dont work. firefox updates work though

i have also recently installed "Shock IP Changer" and used it but i am not sure what my DTS is so i put in 192.168.0.1 and my firefox browser was working again (i changed my ip and my internet didnt work) and i filled in everything else that was required to use internet such as gateway and ip but my ie and everything else didnt work.

(only my firefox worked)

"the shock ip changer" was scaned by Avast antivirus (i ran the scan) and it was clean.

if i dont solve this problem, i will be unable to update or install anything!

I would uninstall the "shock program" and try it then. It is a fereware and you can get it again but reading the little that it tells me it is a waist of time. I use my laptop on four networks and do not have any trouble using it on any. Once the connection has been set all I need to do is use my password. I do not see any need to use this program.

most probably it is a virus problem, if it is happening only when you are online. Try to disable system restore, then boot in safe mode and then run the antivirus/ antispyware scans, that might help. Or otherwise visit bitdefender website, and do a free online virus scan, it can be helpful

Could be a series of problems. For beginners, try looking at anything that may cause your PC to overheat. Try cleaning out the heatsink on the CPU (the accumulated dust can and will defeat the purpose of the heatsing with a fan for cooling the CPU)...but while you are at it, try cleaning out the rest of the fans and inside the PC case. Do this with the PC disconnected from the power source and always ground yourself with the PC case (simply touching the case with one hand while working with the other is fine). The one trick I like to use is pressured air or a blower to get all the dust out of the case. The logoff error could be from an application not closing properly. This application could be a valid one or one that got left behing while un-installing some software. You can google for free registry cleaners that will run and check for registry problems that usually cause these type of errors.

I don't think you have a virus but something might have mess up your window explorer.Try to install xplorer2 free edition from download.com and when windows ask you to choose a program to with choose xplorer2 as the default and it should have solve your problem.
Hi,If you are opening files thst have been sent to you by email or copied from a mem stick it is because your computer doesn't have the (example) same word processor.I have ability write and if i open a file from a computer with word it will tell me 'OPEN WITH...'. I am not an expert at this stuff so maybe ask a computer tecnician. Or you have a virus on your computer which has messed up your files.

When i new day begins, i wake up, use the PC, that darn antivirus of mine does an automatic scanning! how do i disable that automatic scanning, i want to scan myself when i think i have a virus, not just scan all the time, when i first use the computer.

and besides, i dont have any threats, so it should not do that automatic scanning!! how do i disable that? if i disable that automatic scanning schedule, will it say in my security center

I've used this software for years, very good AV product, low overhead and very customizable.

What I've done in the past is schedule the automatic scanning for a time that it shouldn't affect my use of the machine (like 3am M-Th).

That's what I'd do, I wouldn't disable the auto-scan but you should be able to disable it in the schedule of the scan.

Open the AVG Control Center, and go to the scheduler, and see if you can change the scheduling of your auto scan. The free version doesn't provide a whole lot of options for changing the scheduling options so you may not.

You can't,only in AVG pro you can change the settings,they want us to get the paid version.

Delete Norton. I absolutely hate that program, they used to be good now nobody uses it because it sucks so badly. Try using AVG (they have a free edition which is great). Its a far superior antivirus program.

No taskbar or Icons?

This issue is really my fault. I was trying to download a song and a pop up said that I need to download and install a program to download the song. So I downloaded the program and Command Prompt appeared and said something like this "A Virtual Device failed to install". I click Close. When I restarted my PC, there was no taskbar or Icons, for a while the taskbar appeared, but it vanished, now it keeps appearing and vanishing, and, I can't right click the desktop. I scanned with my Antivirus, it detected 8 virus, I removed them. Then I scanned with my Anti-spyware, it detected like 5 spywares, I also delete them, then I scanned with Spybot, it decteted 4,I also fix that problem. But I can't see my icons or taskbar. Yikes. Just want to get out of the way that you should never, ever download things if you don't know what they are.

As for your issue, the best thing for you to do is use System Restore. When your computer is first booting up hit F8 before the Windows loading screen pops up (feel free to mash it a bit until the prompt appears) and you will be given a set of options. Choose Boot in Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode you will be given the option to either work in safe mode or use system recovery - choose the latter and tell it to restore from a date before you downloaded the file.

You will not lose any information and your computer should be working swimmingly.

yep what lunach said........if you have a start button you can also just hit Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Just make sure you have everything else shut down (like email programs, browser etc.)
