Hi every one, I have Windows vista home premium as OS and 1022GB RAM on my computer. I have noticed that when i start my machine 60% of my RAM is occupied it then goes down and stabilise at 54% without me performing any action. I found it fischy because in my task-manager the task consuming at most (often iexplorer.exe) takes in average 66,000 KB and there are not many as such. Have I got a hidden BAD-program in my computer? (i麓v scanned it with avast antivirus and everything is said to be alright) I am not an expert in the domain and i hope to find an answer here.

vista needs a bare mininum of 15gb to function correctly

recommended hard drive size is at least 40gb

vista is happy running on 1024mb of RAM although im using 512mb with no problems.

I would suggest that you try disabling programs one at a time to weed out the RAM eater.

Also go into your startup menu and see how many programs are running on bootup, and uncheck any unecessary ones. Hope This Helps.

Try avast anti-virus and do a full deep system scan...Download avast here http://www.avast.com and during the install it will ask you if you would like to schedule a boot-time scan, select yes and restart the computer at the end of the setup. when your computer next boots it will do a full scan.

You may still have some files which are inffected but your antivirus cannot detect on the ipod. I will advice that you format the ipod but that is provided that even your computer is not inffected. Sometimes on the website of the manufacturer of your ipod you may find tools that will help you restore your ipod to the factory state, that way the boot file will also be restored to the original state. So check the website of the manufacturer and download the necessary files for repairing your ipod.

there is another way to boot. give the drive name like i:, j: in the browser address and open. it is one way to open the ipod and save important datas. then format it or restore the ipod settings. you can also clean the registry using any tune up softwares then try reinstalling the i tunes..

If you have DSL, make sure you're not running too much phone line from the jack to your modem. It should probably be around 12 feet at the most. Otherwise it sounds like it's an ISP issue, contact your service provider and tell them what's going on.

I had it for 2 1/2 yrs., %26 it's acting the way it wants, even though I scanned it %26 put the antivirus updates on it. It's also acting REALLY slow, %26 the volume button still works (louder %26 lower) but the bar does't show anymore. When I try to right click the mouse, it only works for a short period of time %26 then I have to restart the computer for it to start working again.

I've been doing this kind of work for 20 years and I've re-formatted 1000's of systems like yours. That is the best solution, re-format it and re-load your data. Its painful at first, but well worth it. I also like Mac's (and Linux!!) but I recognize that its a Microsoft World, plus, its job security for me!

Try two things...

First make sure hidden files are viewable by going to folder options in windows explorer(not internet explorer) and under Tool/ folder options/ View you will find the option to change that setting. Okay...

Viurtual memory can be increased from the propertise of my computer. Righ click on my computer -%26gt; Propertises -%26gt; Advanced -%26gt; Performance Area -%26gt; Settings -%26gt; Advanced -%26gt;Virtual Memory Area -%26gt; Change.

Normally it's min. is about 1.5 x of your physical memory and the max is about 3x the phy mem. you can set it a slight higher provided your HDD haf more than enough space. Clear your paging file when you shutdown your pc too.

Make sure your hard drive is not full. That is where your virtual memory is. Also make sure you don't have spyware or viruses. They make odd things happen.

The worm itself is relatively harmless. The worm itself is not really dangerous, just a real pain in the neck. Double clicking on drives will not open the drives. Instead, you will have to right-click on the drive and select open. You will see an Autoplay option when you right click the drive.

The worm is just a simple VBScript file, which when run, copies itself to the Windows folder as well as to the root folder of all available drives. In addition, it creates a file autorun.inf that causes the script to be executed whenever the drive icon is double-clicked.

Removing the worm isn鈥檛 really that hard. However, you need to be patient as if you even double click one drive accidentally, you鈥檒l have to redo the entire procedure from start. The steps to remove the worm are as follows:

One possibility is to start your computer in safe mode.

When turning on the computer press the F8 key a few times until a menu appears that includes the option Safe Mode. (Note, you must do this as soon as you start the computer or the menu will not appear). Select this and it will start Windows in a mode that should allow you to delete the file.

Another option is a tool called Remove on Reboot. I haven't tried it but it sounds like it should work.

I am a computer tech and I clicked on it out of curiosity. It is a virus that will eventually cause your computer to shut down and you have to restart it manually. It is also a porthole to allow hackers to hack into your computer. It took me a good while and many many steps to completly remove it including deleting it in regedit. You'll have to manage to right click the taskbar, and under the taskbar tab, you have to uncheck the "Auto hide the taskbar" button.
or when you start your computer up, automatically start CMD as administrator. CMD stands for Command Prompt. When you open it wait for your stuff to disappear and then type in the window, 'explorer.exe' and that should work

Sounds like your power supply for your computer is going out, real cheap to buy a new one, about $30 or so. Its either that your your video card for which you can try updating the driver. I really dont think it is a virus though.

There are viruses that do nasty things to video drivers, but I can;t think of one offhand that'll do what you describe.

My guess would be either the cable, the power supply, or the video card. You could also try a different media player, such as vlc to see if it's a software problem.

Diffcult Pen Drive Virus?

I have some virus in my pen drive. I scan my pen drive with kespersky antivirus , it detect 18 virus in my pen drive but was unable to delte them. Then I scan my pen drive with an updated symentic antivirus %26 it also detected 18 virus %26 was also unable to delete, it says the files are write protected. I also tried with AVG but the same result. Whenever I tried to format my pen drive from windows it says "the device is write protected" (my pen drive has no write protected button). I don't want to pay for antivirus software, i get norton free with my internet service should i go with that or do avg or something like that, what is good for a mac?? any other spyware software, etc..i should get beside antivirus?

Second question how do you take care of the imac to make sure its always running smoothly?

Like with xp i use to:

Delete cookies and all internet files etc

run disk clean up

run disk defrag

run scan disk/check disk

then run antivirus, spywares, etc...

Okay, it is a myth that Macs could get viruses. Really, people have tried but not succeeded. (They could get hacked theoretically, but there are very few Mac hacks, and anyways this is different from viruses which spread by themselves.) Hi, I am using Windows XP Pro SP2.

For several days my computer has been used as a spamming email machine, how do I know that?

I know because I was using Norton antivirus with it's email scanning capability active!

Suddenly my laptop's desktop started to get flooded with many many small windows from Norton's email scanning module that were showing where the email was beeing sent, it's title (that's how I know that they were sending out spam advertising) and also that it is being scanned/rejected/unable to be sent!

My computer gets overload so I had to deactivate email spamming! But my computer kept being very very busy. I unistalled Norton and tried AVG and NOD32. I think the last one did something but I am not sure if the problem is solved!I always check windows task manager and the local area connection status window to show any "redundant acticities".

How can I be protected from this once and for all?

I try to avoid heavy programs such as Norton and Mcfee!!

This happens occasionally to my Office 2003 edition (any of them, like Word or Excel). I open it and the whole program closes instantly. I can open it about 3 times and the fourth it will stay open. Trojan Horse?

i have formatted the c: drive, reinstalled the windows but the Trojan horse remains in c:\WINDOWS\MDM.EXE.

I have re-installed it from the Microsoft CD. After the fresh installation i installed Norton antivirus and had the latest virus updates. but when i click on my D: Drive to access some files the trojan again appears. and the norton real time protection gave me the MSG: "Virus Found: name: Trojan Horse: location/ file: C:\Windows\MDM.EXE"

now my question is, if virus is in the file which is located in D: Drive then why norton real time protection giving me the Wrong location, plus when i scan my computer with the norton antivirus it didn鈥檛 find any virus in D: Drive.

Update your virus definitions and rescan or use another anti-virus like AVG. It could be that the game is a pirated one and it has the trojan inside it. But reinstall the game and see if the problem persists.

While working on computer (Particularly on internet) I often see this message 鈥淭his program -.EXE has encountered some problem and will shut down鈥?sometimes even windows shut down with the program. I face this problem when I use Internet explorer or firefox and when I try to scan my hard disc with Norton antivirus. After shutting down my computer does not restart. If I start it, it starts many times and shut down. After giving some gap of 20-30 minutes it starts then I can work sometimes 15 minutes and sometimes 2 hours before encountering this problem once again. If it happen often, open the chassis and made sure the cooling fan is working when the computer hang as you mention of waiting 20-30 minutes before the computer work again.

Computer will shutdown automatically if it overheat to prevent damage to the motherboard, I have encounted it when my cpu fan shop working. Th problem is solved after I changed my fan.

Ok well yesterday i was unistalling some programs i didn't need, when i came across outerinfo. i saw that it took up almost half a gig and i didn't know what it was. So i go to yahoo anwsers and find out its a maleware or w/e. which i don't even know what it is and everybody is saying its almost impossible to remove. Also i found out that outerinfo makes a ton of pop-ups to pop up but that hasn't happened to me. I find that strange b/c everyone is saying they're having trouble with the outerinfo pop-ups but i've not gotten 1 single pop-up from outerinfo. Now that i think about i haven't gottena pop-up in a while. So i ran an online scan which came up with 4 files infected.2 of them i got rid off and the other 2 i could not find. I ran a whole scan of my computer w/ my antiVirus and it didn't find a single thing. I also looked for them manually but they weren't there.They were called Xrun.exe and yazzle something.So is this a different kind of Outerinfo and if it is how do i kill it.

In the last two months, two of my friends had this same problem. One was when he tried to uninstall ITunes and the other was when he tried to unstall Kazaa.

To make a long story short, the end result was doing a Reformat of their computers. Nothing could be found to effectively solve this problem. Both computers functioned properly after the Reformat.

So, for my friends it was faster and caused less headaches to backup as much of their data as possible and then Reformat.

Sounds pretty much like a smitfraud infection. The smitfraudfix run in safe mode is the tool of choice in removing a smitfraud infection. This will give directions for running the smitfraudfix in safe mode:

These are actually names of valid Microsoft processes. There is some spyware/viruses that use the same name. If you manually remove the wrong one your operating system will have to be reinstalled.

Possible Virus?

I manually scan my computer using the Norton antivirus. It detected possible threats, named Errorsafe. I manually deleted them, but then later discovered that one of them couldn't be deleted. I later checked my Activity log and discovered it to be a security risk threat. I run the virus scanner again and this time it said that no threats are detected.

That threat is located in my temporary internet files. I want to delete it. Would it be over if I just clear my temporary internet files?

my hard drive is my brains ( i have more than one ) and when i need to " get rid " of something i either forget about it or do something really weird or mean or rude so that whatever im trying to get rid of gets the picture i just drew . on the other hand , though , i use the same technique when trying to " get closer " to something , or , someone that i love or would love to be with . im funny like that but serious like this and both like the other .
uninstall all programs you don't want, and then highlight and right click and leftclick DELETE to all other files you don't want... folders work too.

When I did a computer scan, My free version of AVG antivirus detected 6 trojan files...and showed me the message that they are successfully delected and transported to Virus Vault. Now those 6 infected files are there in the virus vault. Is there any danger in keeping them there? Or is there any thing left for me to do? I am new to AVG and trojans.

AVG removes any and all "Viruses" that is can through "Healing". It put Viruses that it can't heal into the Virus Vault. If you wish you can delete those viruses by go to AVG's virus vault and deleting them. To do this just go to My Compute/"C"/Program Files/Grisoft/AVG/virus vault. Or you can just leave them where they are. Once a file is in the vault it can't activate/execute.

Be sure to keep AVG updated, it's a very good anti virus program.

I have a sony VAIO and my cousin has two MacBooks and in our internet modem the little trojan appears. I haven't seen it but he had a guy come check it out because when one person is using the internet it shows that 2 people are connected. We already changed the password and everything, but it always shows one more connection than what there is. They think it is me who has the virus but I have checked and I always check for viruses and nothing has ever shown up. I don't know what to do anymore. Besides my laptop has not been acting funny. His laptop is the one that wont allow him to go to certain website pops keep coming up and it runs slow, despite the fact that we have fast internet. It sounds to me like he is the one with the virus, but he insists that MacBooks are inpenetrable. Is that true? Is it possible to not detect a trojan even when I scan my laptop? It sounds like you are checking the "attached devices" section of your router, which I believe lists recent DHCP leases the router has given out. Many routers will continue to show a computer here *after* it has disconnected. The computer will also ask for a dhcp lease when it is powered on, even if no-one is actually using that computer to access the internet.

A virus could *not* cause this, but you could have someone freeloading off your wireless connection if you have one (such as your neighbours). If you have wireless, remember to login and set up a WPA encryption password to stop this.

If you have the original cd's that came with the computer, then yes you cna reinstall the machine. However this will wipe all exisiting files and any programs you have loaded that did not come with the computer at purchase. So be prepared to spend time reconstructing all these and reloading the necessary additional software. You may be able to access the drive from safe mode and pull off some of the personal files to like a thumb drive or floppy or burnable cd. So Good luck

Tuesday when i ran my AVG antivirus it found 2 trojans in this file..

it was called...

PSW.Onlinegames.AJVH

I did 2 online scans with Panda and Kaspersky and they both found nothing. and i also uploaded the file to a online scanner where they scan your file with about 30+ differnt antivirus scanners and only 2 of them found anything, AVG and Norman. Norman called it a W32/OnLineGames.AUFD.

But yesterday i updated my AVG and now if does not find anything, so my question is was it a false alert?

If two of the AV engines in that on line scan found something, I think a scan with PC Tools Threatfire 3 is in order. It finds new and difficult to find badware before most other services know about it. Removal may be trickier, since that badware seems to have come from an on line gaming site. I would recommend Super Anti-Spyware Free Edition (http://www.superantispyware.com/) since this program has found rootkit-protected badware on my computers more than once, and it removes more badware than SpySweeper or AVG Free. Most likely, the two suspects you mention are adware, not dangerous Trojans, but it never hurts to be careful.

I got a problem, I cant hide my system32 folder, I mean to say

system tasks are not coming on the side, instead of it, picture tasks are coming (view as a slide show, order prints online, print pictures...)

I'm not sure I really understand what your problem is, but one thing I do know is that the system32 folder should NOT contain images.

You should not even attempt to share system folders. This is incredibly dangerous and opens your PC to hostile attack.

Under Tools/Folder Options/View. Click the "Do not show hidden files and folders". This should remove these files/folders from view (it may take a reboot to take effect).

Try going to Folder Options in Control Panel, click on the view tab and click the Reset All Folders button. If this doesn't work then it could be a registry setting changed. I'll edit this post with details if I find anything.

Do you know how I can free up the phone RAM on my E50?

I have a Nokia E50 and the RAm fills up with some stuff after 2-3 days. I check in the app manager and everything is closed but still only around 6Mb are free. Windows XP Home Edition. The computer is a Dell, Dimension 1100. 2.53 GHz, with 256 MB of RAM.

My last De-frag session showed 57.77 GB (or 77%) free disk space.

Eventhough, all of my antivirus, spy-ware, defragmenting, registry scans etc. all showed no signs of any problems. I think the computer is acting slower than it should be.

Although the recommended ram is 512mb, my personal experience is that you should have 1024mb (1gb) of ram for windows xp to run at it's full potential.

Consider upgrading your ram, it doesn't cost alot at all and your computer will feel like it's brand new. This is a very common thing to slow down computers and I see it most days in my job as a computer engineer.

YES, 256MB is definitely not enough RAM. I am running XP and had 512 MB of RAM, then I bought an extra 1 GB on Ebay. Cost me $40, and arrived 2 weeks later.

So much faster now, wish I had done it sooner.

If you've got a filesharing program like Limewire, then I'd say it's probably a virus. Try taking a look on the McAffe site and check their Virus Index, searching for appsvc32. If something comes up, try going through their cleaning process.
appsvc32 is a normal windows process , my opinion is

Try shutting your computer down for a few minutes and then go back to yahoo and sign in. If your messenger still won't open for you, it's probably messed up and you'll need to download another one. Before doing that, remove all of the damaged messenger from your computer before getting a new one or it might interfere with proper downloading.

When you run a virus scan and it finds an infected file, it gives you three options: Delete, repair, or ignore. Repair never seems to work, so its really between delete and ignore. What is the right thing to do here? I don't want to delete a file that I might need. On the other hand, if I ignore, then I'm not accomplishing anything. I installed a free anti virus from Avast yesterday and then ran a virus scan. I selected delete for each infected file. After the scan, my computer was destroyed. I was unable to do anything. I couldnt even do a system restore or uninstall the antivirus. Finally, I had to reinstall Windows. Luckily, I had a back-up.

Make sure you're "ONLY" running Norton. It sounds like you probably are so this is more of a PA statement. Having more than 1 AV program will make a computer nearly useless as they take up all your resources trying to decide which one is protecting the system and which is the potential virus.

Large backgound pics and animated pointers take up a lot of resources.

Setting your virtual memory to auto will likely help. Suposedly there's ways to make the computer use ram before vram, but every time I've come upon a slow system it always seems to have been set rather than letting the system decide what it needs. Switching it to auto has always helped. FYI, right click 'my computer', select properties, go to advanced, performance options.

The main culprit I suspect is services but it's hard to figure out which ones are good and which aren't. My advise would be to just whipe out the OS and start from scratch. It's the only way to make sure you get rid of all the junk.

Hello, the name of the file infected is called svdhost.exe in my system 32 folder, which makes me hesitant to delete it. It has been identified as a Worm/Agobot.FWI in a trial of AVG antivirus, and classed as unhealable.

In my Spysweeper antivirus which was turned off for AVG scan, it was identified as W32/Rbot-GVH and has failed to quarantine.

Please somebody help me get rid of this as I think it is slowing down my system and I am worried. I can delete this file if it is unimportant, but I don't know if it is a system file required to run Windows. Thanks in advance for all the help :).

No antivirus or antispyware protection is perfect, not even the expensive ones but a good mixture will help you clean your system and hopefully keep it clean. It is advisable not to run two or more anti virus applications as they may interfere with one another and cause false alerts.

As the biggest of the problems seem to be associated with Spyware, for starters, download, update and run a full scan using the following product:

SuperAntiSpyware is exceptional and will remove the majority of difficult Trojans and Worms, not just the easy ones.

If possible it is recommended that you load the application in normal mode but run it in Safe Mode. Safe Mode can be started by continually pressing F8 during the boot sequence. If you are badly infected you might need to run SuperAntiSpyware more than once to help clean your system. If the only infections now being shown are in System Restore, once you are completely satisfied that you can boot normally, you can either delete the infected restore points manually, or temporarily turn off System Restore.
